ⓘ No physician referral needed to access physical therapy
On January 1, 2014, a new California law was enacted which allows California consumers direct access to physical therapists (individual physical therapist).
According to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) Low Back Pain (LBP) is the most common pain reported by patients to their Dr’s, with over 28% of U.S adults reporting LBP in the prior 3 months, reported in a 2018 study.
The IASP (International Association for the Study of Pain) reported that in 2017, the prevalence of LBP was estimated to be 7.5% of the global population, or around 577.0 million people.
Needless to say. That’s quite a few people suffering with similar pain, in the same region of the body. If you are currently suffering with LBP, that statistic may offer a little comfort, in that you are not alone.
Of those people with LBP, 85-95% presenting to primary care providers, do not have a specific identifiable pathoanatomical origin for their pain.
This means that healthcare providers face a great challenge in helping patients identify and understand the cause of their pain.
This can also mean that treating the issue is even harder.
This is why some primary care physicians offer many differing treatments, from opioids, anti inflammatories, to injections and surgical interventions.
Some methods work, most will not and some may actually cause more harm than good. Essentially, these methods are a temporary quick fix, a band aid to the underlying cause of LBP.
The result? Development of chronic pain. Altered body mechanics and movement patterns. Compensations within the body and ultimately frustration and disappointment with the medical system in general. Not to mention the expense.
Over time, how we use and move our body will lead to some form of imbalance, dysfunction and pain, IF we do not help to correct these imbalances and restore strength, stability and flexibility, the cycle of pain will likely continue and worsen with time.
How can you stop this? By addressing the underlying causes, namely muscle imbalances, weaknesses or tightness.
Sounds too good to be true? Most exercise programs, therapists, chiropractors etc. Will aim to focus on those causes but often don’t consider how those elements of the musculoskeletal system are directly controlled and influenced.
This is where this program differs.
The body is one big electrochemical reaction. From the heart to the brain to the muscles. The muscles in particular and controlled and influenced by the nervous system. The nervous is influenced by how we breathe. Simply put. If we are able to breathe using our diaphragm more effectively, the parasympathetic nervous system will help relax our muscles, engage our core muscles and ultimately reduce our pain levels.
This is the key part of Breathe Back to Pain Free Program.
The program consists of 7 x 2 minute exercises, no more than 15 minutes a day to help reduce pain and get you back to feeling confident in how you move again. You don’t need any equipment. Just a space to lay down is all you need.
The exercises:
Helps to bring awareness of how you’re breathing and shifting your nervous system activation to reduce tone in muscles.Focuses on diaphragmatic breaths, engaging the parasympathic nervous system to a level which your muscles will move in a comfortable, pain free way.
Gentle mobilization of the lumbar spine, facet joints and nerves.Mobilisation of the hip musculature, releasing the lumbar spine and reducing tension.Reducing tension on the muscles surrounding the sciatic nerve, improving blood flow and oxygenation.Lumbar spine opener, allowing freedom of movement of the discs, nerves and muscles.Stability and strengthening of the core muscles in a functional position.
After practicing these 6 exercises, 15 minutes a day for 1 week, your pain will significantly reduce and you will be able to move with more comfort and confidence.
In addition to those benefits. You will begin to notice the following….
• Improved attention and concentration with focusing on using your diaphragm to breathe
• Improved mood and feeling more relaxed
• More energy to exercise
• Improved posture
• Generally feeling amazing!
The 7 exercises are gentle, easy and can be done anywhere with a little space and perhaps a pillow/cushion.
Be prepared to feel better!
The exercises are available with a short clip of how to do them with explanations.
Additional in depth explanation of how and why they work, with modifications and progressions of the 7 exercises will help answer all your questions during the phone/telehealth consultation.
The Breathe Back to Pain Free Program offers you the real solutions for getting back to being pain free and moving better.
You CAN avoid:
• Medications
